Lauren Hitchmough

Vulnerable- A feeling of insecurity and fear of being harmed. A feeling we as humans have all felt at some point in our lives, most common with our body and how we see ourselves and how others see us. Our bodies are subjected to constant review and criticism from others, but we never see the love and appreciation. Instead, we see our flaws and insecurities and constantly remind ourselves. My work is about loving your body and accepting that those rolls of fat on our stomach, the cellulite around our thighs and acne scars on our face are a part of us and should be accepted. No more flawless skin or filtered photos, instead our natural bodies should be allowed to be seen in all their glories. No one should have to feel vulnerable about their own skin.
To the ladies that took part in my project, thank you.

“When I was approached to do the photo shoot, I was very hesitant, I prefer group shots where I can hide! Lauren took the time to explain her reasons for doing this and made me feel so comfortable about it that I agreed. The day was nervous but I took a deep breath and soon started relaxing, I soon didn't realise I was sat there in my underwear, having pictures taken! I was expecting to want every picture deleted or smoothed out, but they were breath taking, I saw something beautiful in my body in the images, something that I was ugly and fat, was actually rolls of love from good times, lines from laughing, stretch marks from the children I adore. For too long people have tried to conform and sometimes its time to accept what we have and work with it and Lauren has shown that in her work, she has shown beauty in its finest form.”
