About

Contemporary Art Space Chester [CASC] is the operational name for a range of pop-up and permanent exhibition spaces in and around the University of Chester and the city of Chester, including the Foyer Gallery at Creative Campus Kingsway and with the support of Cheshire West and Chester Council, the fantastic Forum Shopping Centre Gallery in the heart of the city which closed late 2022.

The principal purpose of CASC is to provide a platform for students and staff from the Department of Art and Design at the University of Chester to showcase their work and test their research, to support Alumni in extending their practice beyond university and to provide an accessible point of entry for the work of contemporary artists and designers from across the country.

The University's department of Art and Design, through CASC, have developed an active environment that is making a significant contribution to the cultural life of the city of Chester, alongside its students and staff.

The CASC exhibitions calendar is built around our student exhibitions. The seven undergraduate programmes, Fashion Design, Fashion Marketing & Communication, Fine Art, Graphic Design, Interior Design, Photography and Product Design, jointly showcase their work through CASC at the end of the 1st, 2nd and final year of the BA (Hons) degree programmes. MA Design and MA Fine Art exhibit the work of their graduating cohort each September. Art and Design students studying Masters in Research [MRes], MPhil and PhDs have the opportunity to test their research through exhibitions at CASC.

All our students and staff, the wider communities in and around Chester and those that visit Chester, benefit from the invaluable resource offered by the CASC galleries. CASC also host educational activities around their exhibitions.
